Purpose:
The Friend to Friend Food Pantry was established to supplement
the weekly grocery needs of families who have been identified by East
Granby Social Service as needing assistance.
Households served by the pantry range from the elderly, to young
families with children, to individuals.
The
pantry is staffed completely by volunteers, and the food that is
distributed is obtained from food drives conducted by businesses and
civic organizations, cash donations, and proceeds from the Friend to
Friend Thrift Shop. Location:
The Food Pantry is located at the East Granby Congregational
Church. Hours: The
pantry is open for one hour each week for pickup of groceries. To
Use:
If you have a need to use the Food Pantry, please contact the
East Granby Social Service Director at (860) 653-4371.
If you qualify, the Director will give you an eligibility card,
and will explain the procedures to you. To
Donate:
The pantry welcomes monetary donations as well as non-perishable
food items. Main dishes
such as canned meats and canned pasta are especially needed.
Collection boxes for food are available at Geissler’s and East
Granby Public Library. Food
can also be left at the East Granby Congregational Church or at the
Community Center. Checks
should be made payable to Friend to Friend, and sent to Friend to
Friend, P.O. Box 631, East Granby, CT, 06026.
Friend to Friend is a non-profit organization.
To Volunteer: If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the pantry, please call Betty-Anne Holly at 653-7548 or Sally Cowles at 658-5396. Volunteers are needed to shop for food, sort food, pack bags, help with holiday distributions. Tell us what you would like to do, and when you are available. Volunteers who can help in the summer are in particular demand. |
