The East Granby Historical
Society announces that
its new book, The Barns of East Granby: Our Agricultural
Heritage, is now available for sale at the East Granby
town clerk's office. It can also be purchased by using the on-line order
form. Authored by two
longtime East Granby residents, Betty Guinan and Ted Holly, the book
features 269 photos over 130 pages. The text includes brief
histories of local
farms with descriptions of their barns and other
outbuildings.
Many of the buildings were altered over the years
as agriculture changed from general husbandry to specialization and eventually
to the demise of farming as it once was. Today, many barns are cluttered
with old farm implements and other remnants from the past.
Others have been converted to uses their former owners would never have
envisioned.
The book also contains a
Glossary of barn terms.
